NGG11 news

After carrying out some more detailing work on NG55, its rapidly approaching the point where all that I'll be waiting for is the Chassis to arrive before I can order the body. Hopefully it won't be a long wait for the chassis but I have no idea about the waiting time.

Not a bad looking engine for a Garratt. Definately better looking than a NGG16 even though you'll never see a NGG11 pulling the same loads as a NGG16.

Assegaaibos Road sees a solid base

After raiding my MDF stash, I've fitted Assegaaibos Road with a more solid base and attached the track to it accordingly. Fortunately, this is a relatively quick project so requires a layer of ballast to cover the MDF followed by appropiate ash deposits, coal and oil deposits along with other specifics based on the real MPD at Assegaaibos.

Shown as it is at the moment with NG17 and NG124 both on shed

Hopefully this little project will be completed before the potenial delivery of the NGG11.

The SAR Triplets are all here

A couple of days ago, the remaining two NG15s both arrived and despite only having one complete set of underframes/chassis for them, I set about painting them and fitting one of them out for service. In the end, 124 was the lucky one to be completed with 134 awaiting the relavent chassis to arrive before completion.

NG124 in Apple Express condition in SAR Black

NG134 in WHR condition carrying a (at the moment) fictional blue scheme

That brings the trio all into a similar condition paintwork wise and another NG15 ready for testing on the 009 society test track. Maybe even some double heading.....

New Year, New layout

As the New year, so does another layout. This time one in a shoebox. Assegaaibos Road is 33cm long by 29cm wide with a small bolt on fiddleyard which is designed to be able to hold a NG15 or a NGG16. The Shed's overall capacity is 3 NG15s/Garratts with two in the shed and one on the small side track to the shed's left. All points are Peco 9 inch set track to make use of the amount of space available. It takes inspiration from mainly facilities on the Avontuur Line mainly Humewood Road steam sheds and the later Assegaaibos sheds.

All the buildings are either scratchbuilt or modified kits with the stock being either Underground Models or Boston Largs Works kits built up to represent South African prototypes.

Speaking of South African Prototypes my first NG15, NG17, had its first big running session at the 009 Society local group pulling 10 coach trains up and down the test track with apparent ease. I would have run more, but I ran out of serviceable coaches!

Not a bad load for a engine that was only built a couple of weeks ago. I'll be happier if it manages 12 coaches but until I can fix the remaining coaches and get back down to the test track, it won't be for at least 3 weeks. And to think I'll eventually have 3 of these beasties running.

Cheers,

Jon
